Welcome New Teachers for 2016

We have now completed our appointment process for the two teaching positions and we are very pleased to advise school families that we have appointed two permanent teachers to Gladstone School.  Mrs Tracey Jacobson will be the classroom teacher for the Y1 & Y2 class. Tracey comes highly recommended from Tawhai School in Stokes Valley and is an experienced junior school teacher who will bring many strengths to our school.  Mr Alistair Dalziel will be the classroom teacher for the Y3 & Y4 class and we are very pleased to welcome Alistair back, now as a permanent member of staff.  Mrs Chelsea Douglas will be teaching the Y2 & Y3 class for the first term of 2016. Chelsea is well known to the students as she has previously taught a number of them. (This teaching position will be advertised for starting Term 2, 2016).  We will formally welcome our new teachers and students at a 'Welcome Back Assembly' on our first day of the new term, 1st February 2016, at 9am. School families are most welcome to join us for this event. We have a great team of teachers for 2016 and I am really looking forward to working alongside them all in the new school year.

Production Photos

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

In response to the upset caused by not allowing video and photography at the recent school production the board has decided to act swiftly to settle people’s concerns. At our meeting earlier this week we listened to parent voice about the ban and its implementation. The board and management realise it upset people and we apologise to them for that. We will discuss the matter further at our next board meeting early next year with the goal of allowing responsible photography and video at future productions. All policies on this subject will be clearly communicated to everyone.

Final Assembly 2016

Our final 2016 school assembly is being held in the school hall at 11am on Wednesday, December 16th. This is an opportunity to celebrate our school year and especially celebrate our Year 8 students who are moving on to college. All welcome.  This assembly goes for approximately one hour  and our school year concludes at the end of this ceremony.

Dear Parents / Caregivers of Gladstone School

This note is to advise school families that Mrs Bradley has just advised us this morning that she has won a teaching position at Lakeview School, commencing at the beginning of Term 1, 2016.   We wish Mrs Bradley every success in her new job and thank her for all her contributions to Gladstone School over the past 7 years. We will have an opportunity to thank and farewell Mrs Bradley at the end of term.

Two permanent teaching positions are currently being advertised and we are expecting to make appointments before the end of the year.  We will let families know of this outcome at that time.  The additional position that has now become available, will also be advertised shortly and if necessary it will be filled by a current reliever until a permanent teacher is appointed.

It is Great to be Back

It is great to be back at Gladstone School and to hear all about the wonderful achievements and learning opportunities that have been taking place over the past term.  Gladstone School Athletics representatives showed excellent sportsmanship yesterday at the south Wairarapa Athletic Sports Day and I believe we have a number of students going through to the regionals.   The school newsletter is published tomorrow, so their will be lots of end of year information in that publication.

Pet Day & Kapa Haka Festival

Thanks to Piers, here are some photos from Pet Day last week. All reports indicate this was a very successful day.

Wairarapa REAP Schools Kapa Haka Festival 2015 

will be hosted by Masterton Intermediate School 

on Thursday 22^nd October at the Masterton Town Hall, Masterton 

starting with a powhiri at 8.30am. 

All parents and whanau are welcome to come and support. Out of courtesy to the performers there will be no admission during individual school performances. Please ensure you are there at least five minutes before your school’s performance time. There will be food available to purchase on the day. Parking is limited outside the Town Hall, and there are parking meters so please be aware of this.

Gladstone School is scheduled to perform at 9.45am.

Masterton Intermediate School will be selling food, sausages $2 and bacon & egg sandwiches for $3, bottled water will also be for sale.

The festival will be videoed and there will be photographers there on the day.

Booking System for Parent Teacher Conferences

At the end of last term the new computer based system for booking conferences was introduced.  We have had some very positive feedback and from our point of view it worked well.  If you have any comments, positive or negative, you wish to share with us, please ring or email me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Don't the scarecrows on the fence look great? A very positive outcome of the teams of children and adults working so well together.  There should be photogrpahs appearing in the local paper soon, so keep an eye out for that, and our 'official' photographer, Mr Brown has also taken some photos which I am sure he will be sharing via his blog. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the scarecrow making a success.
